Showing Up
April 19, 2021, 10:50 AM

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all people, especially to those who belong to the family of believers. Galatians 6:9-10

Here I sit here feeling wore out and spent. Everything in me wants to mail it in and post a devotional re-run. But, then I remembered (and was convicted) of how significant the simple act of showing up can be when we're weary and fatigued. The decisions we make have ripple effects that extend out farther than we realize. Our willingness to respond and act during trying circumstances matters - not only for our own heart but also for those around us.

The easy path would be to give up and let weariness win, but that route never leads towards the destination we desire deep down inside. Perseverance paves the way towards transformation. It's a trail with many twists and paths along the way. Obstacles make some bends in the road seem impassable. Disappointment possesses the power to rattle our confidence - in others, in ourselves, and even in God.

The next step we take is important. We can't throw away our confidence in His faithfulness. Rather than escape or avoid, we need to endure. Endurance is sufficient strength for the moment in the moment. When we are being pressed and pushed to our max, it's easy to forget that the work we put in today shapes our future self. Today matters, right now matters and our next decision matters. What we sow today, we reap tomorrow. We are either walking forward in faith or shrinking back from His purposes for us. Hope comes to us as we walk by faith. Where do you find yourself weary and worn out? Where do you need to "show up" in these circumstances and display faith and courage?

Prayer: Father God, today I desire to walk confidently and full of faith. In the places where I have grown weary, I will replenish my soul by meditating on Your truth. Lord give me the strength not to shrink back, I want to advance and watch You work through me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
